“Standing in the Middle”
Scripture: Isaiah 58:7 NLT

“Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help.”

Devotion:
I have to admit, sharing with those in need isn’t always easy, especially when there’s a fear of being taken advantage of. However, we are commanded to do so in order to show that we are children of God. The other day, as I sat at a stoplight, a homeless person stood in the middle of the road. He wasn’t saying anything. He was just standing there. Usually when this happens, they are in need. I reached into my purse and pulled out some change. He noticed my gestures and motioned towards the passenger side of my car. I proceeded to roll the window down and handed him the change. He thanked me and went back to where he was standing.

I didn’t think anything about giving him the change, as I am reminded of what the Word of God says, “He gives seed to the sower and bread to the eater.” 2 Corinthians 9:10. Because God has provided for me to be a blessing, the man at the corner has now received one as well.

Sometimes, it’s easy to overlook suffering, thinking someone else will help. But God asks us to step forward in faith, offering what we have, even if it seems small. Every act of compassion—whether sharing a meal, offering shelter, or simply being present—creates ripples of hope and healing.

Action Step:
Seek one way today to actively care for someone in need—donate food, support a shelter, or simply encourage someone struggling. Small acts of love make a big difference.

Prayer:
Lord, open my eyes to the needs around me. Give me the courage to serve selflessly and love without hesitation. Help me be Your hands and feet in this world, showing kindness wherever I go. Amen.
