“A Chance to Breathe”
Scripture: Luke 14:13-14 NKJV

“But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind.  And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you; for you shall be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”

Devotion:
Our house has been a house of refuge for many of our ministry partners and friends. I am reminded of one of our sisters needing a place to stay because she lost her apartment. She called and explained to me what the situation was. I then asked my husband if she could stay with us until she got situated at the YWCA. She stayed with us for three days. Our home was her home for as long as she needed. She is still an incredibly good friend of ours and has gone on to become a powerful young lady in the music ministry. Sometimes, all people need is a chance to breathe.

Jesus challenges us to rethink generosity—not as a way to gain favor, but as an act of selfless love. In a world that often values reciprocity, He calls His followers to give without expecting anything in return. True hospitality is found in serving those who cannot repay—the marginalized, the forgotten, and the overlooked.

Action Step:
Look for an opportunity today to give without expecting anything in return. Whether it's helping someone in need, lending a listening ear, or offering words of encouragement, let it be an act of genuine love.

Prayer:
Lord, help me to give with a pure heart. Open my eyes to those around me who need encouragement, support, or kindness. Teach me to love like You—freely and unconditionally. Amen.
