“Preparing the Way”
Scripture: Luke 3:4-6 (NIV)

"As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: ‘A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him. Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight,
the rough ways smooth. And all people will see God’s salvation.’”

Devotion:
In this passage, Luke references the prophecy of Isaiah, highlighting John the Baptist’s role in preparing the way for Jesus. It is a call for repentance, transformation, and readiness to receive the Lord. The imagery of valleys being filled, mountains made low, and crooked paths straightened signifies the profound changes needed in our hearts to make room for God’s work.

As we reflect on this scripture, we must ask ourselves: Are there "crooked paths" in our lives that need straightening? Are there "mountains" of pride or "valleys" of despair that hinder us from fully embracing God’s grace? Preparing the way for the Lord means allowing Him to reshape us, removing the obstacles that block His presence.

Application:

1. Examine Your Heart: Spend time in prayer, asking God to reveal areas in your life that need transformation.
2. Repent and Realign: Confess any sins or distractions that have distanced you from God, and commit to walking in His ways.
3. Share God’s Salvation: Just as John pointed others to Jesus, look for opportunities to share God’s love and salvation with those around you.

Thought for Today:
When we prepare the way for the Lord, we not only open our hearts to His presence but also help others see His salvation.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, to bring salvation to all. Help us to prepare our hearts, removing anything that hinders Your work in our lives. Make our paths straight and our spirits willing, so that we may walk in Your truth and lead others to Your light. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
