Daily Devotional - Cause for Celebration - WK52 - 12/27/24 - Day 340 - "The Greatest Dedication"

“The Greatest Dedication!”
Scripture: Luke 2:19-21 ESV

“But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them. And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.”

Devotion:
Most of us have some knowledge of a baby’s “dedication.” It’s a time when the whole family comes together at a service and the baby is prayed over and blessed by the church leaders. This is a sign of gratefulness and dedicating the child back to God. It is quite emotional because everyone has such high hopes and dreams for the baby as they embark on their journey called life. This is similar in Jewish culture, however, they would conduct this when the baby was eight days old, and it was for male children only. I can only imagine how Mary and Joseph must have felt knowing that their child, who is the Son of God, was circumcised as a way of being dedicated back to God and was given the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior! Their family may not have been present but the shepherds certainly were and exuberantly praised God for the birth of Jesus. How grateful they were as we should all be for the greatest baby dedication of all time!

Prayer:
Great God, we thank You for Your Son Jesus Christ. Knowing that You loved us enough to send a Savior is the greatest act of unconditional love. We will never forget the love and sacrifice that You made for us. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
