Daily Devotional - Cause for Celebration - WK52 - 12/24/24 - Day 337 -"It's All in The Name"

“It’s All in the Name!”
Scripture: Luke 1:63-66 ESV

“And he asked for a writing tablet and wrote, “His name is John.” And they all wondered. And immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, blessing God. And fear came on all their neighbors. And all these things were talked about through all the hill country of Judea, and all who heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, “What then will this child be?” For the hand of the Lord was with him.”

Devotion:
This world has around seven billion people on it and counting! We all have numerous similarities and differences, and are unique in our own way, but there is one commonality that we all share…we each have a name! Our names give us part of our identity and help us exude power in who we are. Most of us have a story behind where our names come from; sometimes a good story and sometimes not so good. In this text, Elizabeth, the cousin of Mary and the mother of John the Baptist, proclaimed that her son would be named John, however, everyone else thought he should be named Zechariah. At this time Zechariah was mute because he did not believe God. A priest that couldn’t preach! It wasn’t until Zechariah wrote down that his son would be named John, that his voice was returned to him. It was all in the name! How amazing is it that a name restored Zechariah’s voice. Let that be a lesson to all of us to remember that there is power in the Name!

Prayer:
Lord, we give thanks in all things that You have done for us. Knowing the power that’s in Your matchless Name, we proclaim Your goodness. Our desire is to always remember there’s power in Your Name. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
