Daily Devotional - A Time of Gratitude - WK47 - 11/23/24 - Day 307 "Forever Grateful"

“Forever Grateful”
 Scripture: Psalm 79:13

“So we thy people and sheep of thy pasture will give thee thanks for ever: we will shew forth thy praise to all generations.”

Devotion:
During the time that Jerusalem was destroyed by Babylon, this Psalm was written by Asaph, who was said to be on the front line witnessing the destruction, the death and torment that the people of Jerusalem were experiencing.  Asaph prayed for God to deliver the people from their enemies, to turn His wrath from them and instead punish the Babylonians. He asked God to forgive the sins of Judah, show mercy upon them and restore their land. He recognized that they needed God in order to live on in the future. He also realized that they owed God praise for their deliverance.

Like Asaph, how many times have we found ourselves crying out to God, promising Him that, “if You deliver me from this mess, I will straighten up my life, I will turn from my wicked ways, I will praise and glorify You, I will witness to others about Your goodness?”  No matter what we are going through we should have faith that God will hear us and He will deliver us if we turn it over to Him. However, when we are delivered, we are to tell somebody about His goodness.  Psalm 79:13b says, “we will shew forth thy praise to all generations,” meaning, that we will tell others – We will tell our children and our children’s children, down through the generations, about the Goodness of our God! Let’s be determined each day to rise up with an attitude of praise and gratitude unto God!

Prayer:
Father we thank You for loving us, and forgiving us, and showing Your compassion toward us. Help us to witness to others of Your goodness, and to forever give You all praise, honor and glory, even when we are going through a storm! In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
