Daily Devotional - A Time of Gratitude - WK47 - 11/22/24 - Day 306 "Instruments of Righteousness"

“Instruments of Righteousness”
Scripture: Romans 6:13 KJV/ NIV

“Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.” (KJV)
 
”Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.” (NIV)

Devotion:
Does it really take all that? Do I really have to give up everything? Many times we ask God or ourselves this question when it comes to letting go of our fleshly desires. Often times we feel like one drink won’t hurt, or one lie won’t kill me, but what we sometimes forget or don’t know is, when we give the devil an inch, he takes a mile. The next thing you know, it’s 10 drinks instead of 1 and you’re 11 lies in because you had to cover up the first one. We have to make a decision, whether we want to be instruments of wickedness or instruments of righteousness. Unfortunately, we can’t be both, It’s Holiness or Hell! If I could help you with making that decision, I would ask, why would you want to be an instrument to something that God wants us to die to? Also, (Proverbs 14:12) says, “There is a way that seems right to man, but its end is the way of death.” Knowing these two facts alone have encouraged me to continue to be an instrument of righteousness instead of the latter, and it is my prayer that you are encouraged to do the same.

Prayer:
God, we thank You for Your word. We thank You for the opportunity to read and understand what Your word is saying to us on a daily basis. God, we ask that You help us to continue to strive to be instruments of righteousness. It is not easy to die to our fleshly desires, but we are asking that You first, forgive us, and help us to become more like You. Help us to continue to trust You with our lives and our decision making. We want more of You, but we are aware, that in order to draw closer, we have to continue to die. Help us to continue to realize and recognize the benefits of dedicating our lives to You. We thank You for Your grace and mercy that continues to be with us. We will continue to worship You and strive to become instruments of righteousness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
