“The Power of God”
Scripture: Colossians 1:11-12

“Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:”
 
Devotion:
Paul is praying for God to strengthen the Christians of Colossae with all might – that power of God that will enable them to endure - so that they can have patience and stand strong. Paul recognized that they would encounter all sorts of trials and temptations and they would need this power, just as we do today. Power to stand strong against false teachings, temptations, stress and the troubles of this world. We need His power in our moments of weakness and attacks from the enemy. Paul realized that help was needed, and we have also learned that we can’t do it on our own strength - because like me, we all have tried! Problems come that we will try to run away from, but the Lord says that we are to go through them.  The best part is that He has promised that we will never have to bear these problems alone. He will be with us!  He will never leave us nor forsake us. We have to exercise our faith in Him and patiently wait on Him – Trusting that He will work it out!

While we are waiting, just like Paul, we should be praising Him. Thank Him for choosing us and bringing us out of darkness into His marvelous light.  He selected us to be set apart for the Master’s use. And because He has chosen us, we can trust that the Holy Spirit will guide us through the trials and temptations that we will face. Let us never forget to use our God-given power with Joy when we get weary!

Prayer:
Father, thank You for giving me the faith to trust in You through it all; knowing that You will strengthen me when I am weak and give me the endurance to be patient.  Help me to remain joyful and trust in You even as I am going through.  In Jesus’ name. Amen.
