“Listen Up!”
Scripture: Proverbs 23:9 NLT

“Don’t waste your breath on fools, for they will despise the wisest advice.”

Devotion:
We all know of people in our lives who say and do things that don't make sense to us. While we know that everyone has varying levels of understanding, we recognize that some of those people are in a shape they are in because they chose not to follow wisdom or advice from others. This is true for leaders. Oftentimes, those of us in leadership forget that we don’t have all the answers; that we must seek out sound wisdom and advice from those who know the way. When we get to the point where we think we know everything, we become fools and shy away from the advice of others. The Bible tells us that in the multitude of counsel, there is safety. Let’s be wise and listen! And when we do encounter those who don’t want to listen to advice, let’s do as the scripture today says, “Don’t waste your breath!” Let’s strive to be the leaders who listen and follow sound advice.

Prayer:
Great God, You deserve great praise. Thank You for giving us the desire to listen to sound advice, especially as we lead Your people. And for those of us who struggle in this, we are asking that You soften our hearts to realize that we don’t have all of the answers, that it’s okay to ask for advice, because we do not want to be labeled as fools. We love and thank You God. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
