“The Elevated Golden Rule!”
Scripture: Matthew 7:12 NIV

“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”

Devotion:
Many of us are familiar with the Golden Rule; to do unto others as we would like done to us. This is a pillar of everything that we, as humans, should use for every decision that involves others. While this is important, I challenge us as servant leaders to execute this rule on a different level. My mother and grandmother taught me that instead of treating others the way you want to be treated, I should treat others BETTER than I want to be treated. That one word, BETTER, completely elevates this rule. By treating others better than we would treat ourselves, we are exemplifying the love of God. How much more effective our leadership would be if we all strive to treat others better than our own selves?  Good leaders know how to treat people with a level of respect, love, and dignity that is unmatched except by our God. So the next time you think of the Golden Rule, think of elevating your mindset to treat others BETTER than you would want to be treated. After all, that’s what good leaders do!

Prayer:
Thank You, Father God, for always knowing how to treat us with unfailing loving kindness. Empower us to continue to follow the elevated Golden Rule in every area of our lives, that we will be the great leaders that You have called for us to be in this season and forevermore. That we will treat everyone BETTER than we would treat ourselves, showing them the same love that You show to us everyday. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
