“A Just Leader”
Scripture: Psalm 78:72

“So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.”

Devotion:
We know David to be a man after God's own heart. Customarily, his early training in the teaching of God and who God is, plays a big role in his adult life and his leadership abilities. In his young life, he started as a shepherd leading his father's sheep. Through shepherding he learned responsibility, and respect for authority. David did what was expected of him and demonstrated his fear of God and acknowledged Godly attributes in the presence of his authorities and those who had leadership over him. He did it skillfully and God blessed him for knowing how to humble himself even when humility was present.

“And David reigned over all Israel; and David executed judgment and justice unto all his people” 2 Samuel 8:15 (KJV). This scripture reminds us that David reigned over all of Israel; and administered justice and righteousness for all God’s people. 1 Kings 9:4-5 reads “And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and my judgments: Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel forever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.”

David was a great warrior and leader. Under his leadership he won many battles with fewer men than his adversaries. Through David’s life, we can see how being humble while serving a difficult leader can be rewarding in the eyes of The Lord. As we move forward in our studies on servant leadership, let’s learn from the life of David and understand that sometimes, it takes a hard leader to make a better one.

Prayer:
Lord thank You for giving us the tenacity to withstand the hardship of unjust leaders so we can learn how to value in being a just leader. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
