“Do As I Do”
Scripture: Luke 22:26

“But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.”

Devotion:
Jesus is instructing His disciples up until the very end. This scripture is after the Last Supper and the disciples are not seeming to realize the little time they have left with Jesus. As always, Jesus is giving the disciples nuggets that will help them when He is gone. He is telling them that they need to do exactly as He has been doing – SERVE!

The disciples were so busy focusing on who was the best and brightest that they were not getting what just happened at the Lord’s Supper. We must not take the slogan “What Would Jesus Do?” lightly. We must do just what Jesus did. The world is so focused on the opposite, which is “do as I say, not as I do” in order to control or manipulate, but Jesus is reminding us that in order to truly lead – we must first serve.

Nobody wants to be last. It is often seen as failure or not good enough, but I’m here to let you know that last – in the kingdom of God – is first. When we want to puff ourselves up – DON’T! Instead, drop down, humble yourself and watch God exalt and elevate you high above those seeking to be first. True leaders do as Christ did – SERVE!

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for sending us the perfect example – Jesus. Help us to do what He did in our daily lives and to serve Your people with grace and humility. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
