“Divine Hierarchies”
Scripture: Exodus 18:21

“Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:”

Devotion:
In order to be an effective leader, one must be able to accept wise counsel. In today’s devotion, Moses was attempting to handle all of the problems of the children of Israel on his own. His father-in-law gave him some sound advice: set up divine hierarchies. The previous scripture states that Moses was to teach the laws and ordinances and in today’s scripture, he was to find able God-fearing men to setup the hierarchies to rule over the people.

Often times we look at the hierarchies or structures that are in place and wonder how in the world did they get to be in that office? Or how did they get to this position? The answer is simple – God. The Bible says in Romans 13:1 “Let every soul be subject unto higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.” This tells me that even when we are scratching our heads, God has already authorized the powers that be.

Instead of wondering why God allowed this one or that one to be in control, let us begin to pray for those that are in positions of authority and leadership. Let us pray for our leaders and not criticize because if we do, we risk going against the authority ordained by God. It’s not easy when we look at the world today, but we must remember ALL power belongs to God.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the hierarchies that You have established. We thank You for giving us the wisdom and knowledge, and we ask You to help us to pray for those You have placed in leadership in accordance with Your will. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.
