Without Walls
 
Scripture:
He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls. Proverbs 25:28 (KJV)

Devotion:
This proverb paints a vivid picture of the importance of self-control. In ancient times, a city without walls was vulnerable to attacks and destruction. Its people had no protection from outside forces, leaving them exposed to harm. Similarly, when we lack self-control, we are like that unprotected city. We open ourselves up to harmful influences, negative emotions, and destructive behaviors that can invade and take over our lives.

Self-control is not just about resisting temptation but also about managing our emotions, thoughts, and actions in every aspect of life. Whether it's controlling our anger, our impulses, or our words, practicing self-control keeps us spiritually fortified and in alignment with God's will.

The Holy Spirit helps us develop self-control. As we draw closer to God and ask for His guidance, He equips us with the strength to remain disciplined, to pause before reacting, and to act wisely. Self-control becomes a spiritual defense, guarding our hearts and minds against the things that could otherwise lead us away from God’s best for us.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help me to grow in self-control. Let Your Spirit guide me in moments of weakness, that I may stand firm and guard my heart against anything that seeks to pull me away from You. Strengthen my resolve and help me to make decisions that reflect Your wisdom and love. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Take a moment today to identify an area of your life where you struggle with self-control. Pray specifically for God’s help in that area and find a practical step you can take to strengthen your resolve—whether it’s setting boundaries, seeking accountability, or practicing mindfulness.
