“Watch What You Say!”
Scripture: Ecclesiastes 10:20

“Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.”

Devotion:
Solomon, the king, who we know is famous for his God given wisdom, warns the people and us that we have to be careful what we say; not only what we say, but what we have in our minds, hearts, and thoughts also.  What we have in our thoughts will eventually go to our hearts and as Jesus said in Luke 6:45, For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.  We know that God is the ultimate King, and we must be sure that we do not curse God!  We also must not speak negatively of our leaders, whether it be political leaders or our spiritual leaders.  We have to turn them over to God in prayer. We may not be pleased with their actions, but we must let God handle them.  The scripture also says we must not curse the rich, those who are seen as better than us, even when we are in a private place, such as in our bedrooms.  We know that nothing we say is ever private, especially with technology and social media.  We have to be mindful that our thoughts and words have consequences, and we should not be the ones sowing discord. As believers of Christ, we are supposed to be people of peace, behaving with grace and integrity as we lead others to Christ.

Let’s guard our hearts and minds, remembering that others are watching and listening to us, but more importantly that the Lord is watching, and He hears us and sees our actions.  We will be held accountable for our words and our thoughts – Watch what you say!
 
Prayer:
Thank You Lord for Your wisdom.  We pray that You would fill us with wisdom so that we will have pure thoughts, desires, speech and live our lives to honor You in everything that we say and do.  In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.
