"Chosen, Ordained, and Fruit Bearing"
Scripture: John 15:16
 
“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you.”

Devotion: The lesson text for today’s devotion is simple – we were chosen and ordained by God to bear fruit that would last. I could end the devotion here but let me explain what I mean by this. Jesus was telling the disciples that He chose them. We know that to be true in the scriptures. Jesus came to each and told them to follow him. Just as he did with us. He did not do it in person as He did with the disciples; however, he did it just the same by tugging on our heart strings until we submitted to Him.  Jesus called each one of them, he then taught them ordained them. When we give our life to Christ, we hopefully will attach ourselves to a church family that teaches the Word of God and as we grow, we eventually will be ordained into ministry. Not titles such as Elder or Missionary, but ministry, or reaching a level where you can share the good news with others. We have to first hear before we can minister. Lastly, the disciples were to bear fruit, which means there is to be a result that occurs from their service. When we minister, we want there to be a lasting fruit in the form of people coming to Christ and building up the household of faith. We want to be able to reach as many as we can and give them the good news in hopes that they too will join this wonderful family.  We are chosen, ordained and are to be fruit bearing in the Kingdom of God.

Prayer: Lord, we thank you for choosing us. Help us to remember our calling and to continue to bear fruit and bring in the harvest. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
