“The Cost of Serving Him"
Scripture: Luke 14:33
“So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot
be my disciple.”

Devotion: What is the cost to be a disciple of Christ? Today’s message is written in red
font, so we know that this comes from Christ Himself. Jesus was a Gospel preacher
during His earthly ministry. He gave us an example of how to make disciples, and as we
discussed earlier in the week, we all have a charge to go and compel others to join us in
discipleship. However, with anything that we do, there is a cost associated.

The words of an old song come to mind. “I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning
back.’’ “The world behind me, the cross before me. No turning back.” If we are truly
going to be followers and disciples of Christ, we are going to have to give up something.
What is it going to cost you? Jesus lets us know that we have to give up all that we have
to follow Him. That means we are going to have to sometimes give up certain things,
associates, and things that we may hold dear if they are not going to be conducive to
our faith walk.

It may not be easy to do, but it is called a sacrifice for a reason. Anything that is easy is
not a sacrifice. So, as we serve, let us be mindful of the cost we pay to be one with our
Lord. With much sacrifice God is well pleased, and we know that serving the Lord will
always pay off for us in the end.

Prayer: Lord, we thank You for allowing us the opportunity to be in fellowship and
discipleship with You. We ask You Lord to help us to forsake all and take up our cross to
follow You. Help us to remember the sacrifice that You made for us to purchase our
salvation. Let us always remember and be thankful to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
