Daily Devotional - Discipleship - WK32 - 08/09/24 - Day 201 “Count the Cost”

“Count the Cost!” 
Scripture: “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish it.” (‭‭Luke 14: ‭28‬-30‬ ‭KJV)‬‬

Devotional:
There is an old hymn that says, “I had a debt I could not pay, He paid the debt He did not owe, I needed someone, To wash my sins away. And now I sing a brand-new song, Amazing grace all day long. Christ Jesus paid the debt, That I could never pay.” When I think about God’s love for me, I am overwhelmed with joy. He didn’t have to save me. He didn't have to redeem me back to Him. But, I am so glad He did.

In today’s scripture, Jesus is admonishing the crowd following Him to think about what being His disciple really means. You see Jesus knew what He must do to redeem humanity back to God, and He also knew that even with His sacrifice we must be willing to completely repent, submit, and follow Him. That’s why Jesus let the people know if they were going to follow Him, they should weigh the cost, because He requires total commitment and submission from His disciples.

How many times have we made choices on our own without seeking God, and then we had to suffer based on those choices? But thank God for Jesus.  Jesus is saying, if you follow me, and allow me to order and direct your path, I will lead you to the path of victory. We have the victory in Christ Jesus! It is not in our strength or our own power, but it is through Jesus we win!

Prayer:
God, thank You for loving me enough to redeem me back to You, help me to serve Jesus with my whole heart. Amen
