“Drop Your Nets”
Scripture: Matt. 4:19

Devotion: Have you ever been called to action where you had to drop what you were doing, get in your car and get moving? In those cases of emergency, that is what’s required. I’m sure that’s the life of those who serve our country. They are subject to the voice of the Commander and Chief, also known as the President of The United States of America. When duty calls, they answer the call with a “Yes Sir!” However, as members the military, their purpose is to protect the USA, while in this scripture, the charge is different.

Yes, there is a call to action in this verse. Jesus calls to action Simon Peter and his brother Andrew to leave their fishing nets and follow Him. The imagery of fishing is powerful. Just as they would cast their nets into the sea to catch fish, Jesus invites them to cast the message of the Gospel into the world to bring people to God. This call of discipleship is not only for them, but for all who choose to follow Jesus. Just like the military’s protection of the USA.

Application: Consider how you can respond to Jesus’ call in your daily life. Who in your circle needs to hear about Jesus’ love and forgiveness? How can you demonstrate Christ’s compassion and truth in your actions and words? Remember, it’s not about having all the right answers, but being willing to share your journey of faith and the difference Jesus has made in your life.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for calling us to follow You and to be part of Your mission. Help us to embrace our role as fishers of people, sharing Your love and truth with those around us. Give us courage, wisdom, and compassion as we reach out to others. May our lives reflect Your grace and draw people closer to You. Amen
