Prayer Will Fix It

James 5:14-16 
14 "Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. 16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."

Devotion:
Prayer is the key. Faith unlocks the door. By our faith we are made whole. Prayer is our way of communication with our Heavenly Father. Have you ever been sick in your body or faced a situation that you could not see the way out? In the text today, we are encouraged to call for the Elders of the church that they may pray for us to recover.
Sometimes we may have an SOS moment and are not able to get an Elder or Pastor from the church at that moment. It’s in those moments that we have to have a personal prayer life and connection to God. The word tells us that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man (or woman) avails much, meaning it is useful and beneficial. I recall a situation as a child where I was playing while out in the country town visiting family. I ran into a nail that was in the wall, and it pierced the temple of my head. My father wasn’t an Elder or Pastor, but he was a Deacon and a praying man. He laid me on the couch where he prayed and laid hands on me and the bleeding stopped. I am a living testimony of the results of a fervent prayer life. Saints, I want to encourage you today, if you do not have a regular prayer life, it’s not too late to start. God is standing by and He is willing and ready to heal us.

Prayer:
Lord, we thank You for Your healing power. We believe Your word that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Help us Lord to be holy and righteous, so that when we pray, You will hear us and respond to our petitions. When we pray, let us have the faith that You will come through for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
