“That Gut Feeling”

“But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.” – I John 2:20

Devotional:
Have you ever just felt something was off? Like you walked into a room or just got finished talking to somebody, and you thought to yourself, “what just happened?” or “something isn’t right about that person?” Some people like to call it a gut reaction or intuition, but the Word of God calls it an unction. In the preceding scriptures, John was telling us to not love the things of the world, that God’s Word is the only thing that will stand, that we must watch out for those who seek to do us harm. I call it a Holy Conscience, which leads and guides me when I am faced with those who may seek to do me harm. Another word would be discernment. Some people have it and some people must develop it through listening to the Holy Ghost. Whatever you choose to call it, do not ignore it. God has placed it in you for a reason and it, along with the Holy Ghost, will prevent you from walking into a harmful place or continuing to talk to the wrong person. Listen to that Unction, because it comes from God.

Never forgetting that as we grow in God, we learn more and our spiritual radar should sharpen. There is a saying that iron sharpens iron, which means if you are keeping company with the wrong people, the Spirit is probably moving you to move on. Listening to the voice of the Lord and adhering to the guidance of the Holy Ghost will keep your mind sharp and your soul healthy. Don’t ignore it because it will stop speaking to you.

As we continue to our wealthy place, let us not forget that small still voice from the Holy Ghost seeks to lead us into all truth. Without it, we will fail. With it, we can be great in God.

Prayer:
Father, thank you for that unction. Thank you for the Holy Spirit that guides me daily and keeps me from stepping outside Your will. Help me to always listen to the Holy Ghost in everything that I do.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
