“How Great Is Our God”

“He health the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names. Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.The Lord lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.” (Psalms 147: 3-6 KJV)

Devotional:
God is great! God’s sovereignty can’t be denied. It is present all around us. Sometimes I just look up at the sky, and I marvel at how with just His words, God spoke this entire world into existence. Then I marvel even more, that God in all His might, and in all His power, loves little old me. He loves you, and you, and you. He loves us all! If you ever doubt God’s love for you, all you must do is think back to that old rugged cross. Jesus' life, death, and resurrection showed us God’s powerful love for us in action. If you don’t believe me, check out John 3:16.

A while back, I thought about how, as a society, we have become more consumed with people liking us than we have with God loving us. We like to be liked; we get validation from the hearts we receive on social media. We seek validation and approval from friends, family, and associates to assure us we are doing a good job, doing the right thing, or have achieved a certain status. I have been guilty of calling friends and family for direction before I sought God. Sometimes, God will allow the phone to ring and ring with no answer. Finally, I would come to myself and say, God, I am sorry. Let me seek You first. I don’t think it’s anything wrong with seeking Godly counsel, but first I think it is important to seek the Great Counselor. I believe true validation comes when we are directed and led by God. God, what would you have me to do in this situation? God, how can Your light shine through me?

You see, God, unlike our families or friends, sees beyond our outer demeanors. He sees behind the masks we wear to hide what we may go through. God looks straight into our hearts. He sees us when we are hurting, crying, and when we feel like giving up. I believe that when we are at our lowest, and our weakest points in life, that is when God gets the most glory out of us. Because in those moments, we are humble enough to realize that we can’t do ANYTHING without God. However, with God, we can do ALL THINGS!

Prayer:
God, You are great and worthy to be praised. Help me seek You first in all things. Allow me to submit my will humbly to Yours and let Your love guide me in all my ways. Amen.
