“The King IS Coming”

“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.” – Zechariah 9:9

Devotional:
Who has ever heard of a King riding on a donkey? Never in my life; however, the greatest King of all – Jesus – did just that. Zechariah proclaims the arrival of Jesus on the colt of an ass, which was the lowest of animals. But this was monumental in Jesus’ ministry because it once again exemplified His character throughout His ministry and lifetime which was humility and service. The people thought that the prophesied King would be a mighty warrior who would beat down the head of the Roman oppression and rule. Jesus had a different ministry – one of humility and service to others. This put Him at odds with the “religious” leaders of His day; however, He remained true to his calling even unto death.

As we continue the Journey to Pentecost, let us remember the example of Jesus – humility and service. As we embrace this grace, let us share with others so that all may come to know the true and living King.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for being my King. Thank You for Your service, Your character, and Your sacrifice. Help me to exemplify the characteristics You upheld in my everyday life.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
