“Fifty Days”

“Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath, shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the Lord. Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals: they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baken with leaven; they are the firstfruits unto the Lord. And ye shall offer with the bread seven lambs without blemish of the first year, and one young bullock, and two rams: they shall be for a burnt offering unto the Lord, with their meat offering, and their drink offerings, even an offering made by fire, of sweet savour unto the Lord. Then ye shall sacrifice one kid of the goats for a sin offering, and two lambs of the first year for a sacrifice of peace offerings. And the priest shall wave them with the bread of the firstfruits for a wave offering before the Lord, with the two lambs: they shall be holy to the Lord for the priest. And ye shall proclaim on the selfsame day, that it may be an holy convocation unto you: ye shall do no servile work therein: it shall be a statute forever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.”  Leviticus 23:16-21

Devotional:
The instructions of God were clear – after the Feast of the First Fruits, the people were to count seven sabbaths and begin what we are now in – The Journey to Pentecost. God gave the people specific instructions about how to bake the bread, what animals were to be sacrificed, and how the offerings were to be presented, and the people were to practice this. However, we do not kill any lambs or goats now because we have been redeemed by The Lamb – Jesus Christ.

The Journey to Pentecost was filled with numerous instructions and things the people had to do. While we do not have to kill any animals, we are to spread the Good News that Jesus - the Lamb that was slain for our sins – is alive and wants to save us. However, let us not forget that there was once a time when we did not have direct access to The Father, and to not let Jesus’ sacrifice for us be in vain.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for sending Your son to be a perfect sacrifice for me. I realize I have a direct link to You, and I want to be in Your Will. Help me to remember the sacrifices of old and the Ultimate sacrifice by Jesus for me. I will not let it be in vain.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
