The Reason Jesus Died

Devotional Reading: “For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”  - Romans 5:6-8 KJV

The reason Jesus died is that we might THRIVE. He is calling us to life AND that more abundantly. He died in due time, in  other words the time appointed by the Father. The time that Jesus died was right on time for the generations past, this present generation and for those to come. If then His death was timely, so also must be the reason He died.

It is the responsibility of every believer to discover their purpose. Understand, there is no question whether you have a purpose. The question is what is that purpose? “Why am I here?”

Paul in this letter to the Romans, reminds them that God didn’t wait for humanity to get it right to send His Son. He sent His Son because without Him we could never “get it right”! Accepting the sacrifice Jesus made and giving our lives to Him comes with great benefit. The chiefest of these benefits is the opportunity to GROW.

G - gather or glean. To gather means to accumulate, but to glean means to gather (accumulate) after a harvest. Jesus died that you might have strength. Strength the without Him we could never have. Gathering is work. It is work that comes with great pay. In your gathering remember to glean. In Leviticus 19:9-10 God commanded Israel, whenever they reaped a harvest, to deliberately leave some behind for the poor and needy. We never know when we will be on other side of the spectrum in life - the giving or the receiving side. Therefore, it behooves us to be generous whenever we can.

R - receive. Accept the gift. In order to walk in the blessings of God we have to take possession, or shall I say, accept possession of them. St. Matthew 10:8c “…freely ye have received, freely give.”

O - occupy. Knowing who you are and who’s you are comes with an incomparable confidence. Take your rightful place! The day that you accepted Christ is the day that you became a citizen of the Kingdom of God. Own it.

W - witness. You are living proof of the goodness of God. Tell somebody else. SHOW somebody else. Prove it to yourself that faith in God is worth it all. Be that witness.

Have life and that more abundantly! Yes, HAVE life, it’s a gift and it’s available to you NOW.  And do it in grand fashion. Why not? You’re a King’s Kid.

What does the abundant life look like? I believe we have the privilege to define that for ourselves. Here’s the catch… according to your faith be it unto you.
