HSM 40-Day Consecration – Day 21

MEDITATE: Acts 10:2
A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.

PRAY:
Lord, I want to celebrate this season with my whole family. Show me ways we can draw near to you together this year in worship and adoration, as well as celebration and joy.

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE: “Good Godly Fear”
Luke started this passage of scripture with Cornelius’s resume; he was soldier, a centurion, and a devout man. He feared God, not only him but also his entire also household; he gave much to the poor and prayed always. Even though he was not a believer in Christ the scriptures denote he was seeking God and he was reverent and generous. Therefore, God sent Peter to tell Cornelius about Christ. The latter part of Hebrews 11:6 says, and He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

The part that resonated with me was “feared God” with all his house. Proverbs 9:10 states “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding”. A good Godly fear will cause you to take heed to the things of God and give you a desire to please Him. It will take wisdom to draw family members but as we see with Cornelius it will also take commitment, consistency and always doing the right thing. I believe Cornelius’s story demonstrates God’s willingness to use extraordinary means to reach those who desire to know him. Those who sincerely seek God will find him!

Matthew 5:16 says, Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven. As we celebrate Jesus this season may what we do for others and our prayers bring our families and us closer to God.
