“The Harvest of Our Choices”
Scripture: Proverbs 22:8

“He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.”

Devotion:
Today’s lesson offers a powerful reminder that our choices carry consequences. Every action we take—whether good or bad—is like planting a seed. Over time, those seeds grow and produce a harvest. Proverbs 22:8 warns that when we sow wrongdoing, the result is emptiness, frustration, and loss.

Iniquity isn’t always obvious or dramatic. Sometimes it shows up in small compromises—unforgiveness, dishonesty, pride, or unkindness. These may seem insignificant in the moment, but when consistently sown, they can lead to outcomes that leave us feeling spiritually drained and disconnected. The “vanity” mentioned in this verse reflects a harvest that lacks true value or lasting fulfillment.

The good news is that God, in His mercy, allows us to change what we plant. We are not stuck with past choices. Through repentance and obedience, we can begin sowing seeds of righteousness—love, humility, patience, and faith. When we align our actions with God’s Word, we begin to see a different kind of harvest, one marked by peace, purpose, and spiritual growth.

This verse invites us to pause and reflect: What seeds am I planting today? The harvest may not come immediately, but it is always on the way. Choosing wisely today shapes the life we will experience tomorrow.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for reminding me that my choices matter. Your Word shows me that what I sow today will impact what I reap tomorrow. I ask for Your wisdom to recognize areas in my life where I may be sowing the wrong seeds. Give me the strength to make choices that honor You, even when it is difficult. Guide my steps so that my life reflects Your truth and produces a harvest that glorifies You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
