“Abide in Love”
Scripture: John 15:10

“If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.”

Devotion:
In today’s Scripture Jesus is letting His disciples know that to abide in His love, they must walk in obedience to God. Jesus showed us the greatest example of performing God’s will in a spirit of humble obedience when He walked among men preaching, teaching, healing, and delivering. Then, He laid down His life to redeem mankind. He did what His Father sent Him to do, and He showed us love in action by how He treated others. We often quote the Scripture, “Obedience is better than sacrifice” (1 Samuel 15:22) but do we really honor it? The term obedience comes from the Latin roots oboedire (to obey) and audire (to hear/listen.) Are we obeying and listening to God’s will for our lives? Are we walking purposefully into that will? Are we abiding in God’s love?

We are living in a time of divisive distractions sent by the enemy to keep us from living out God’s will for our lives. The old, nasty, stinking devil is the father of lies and the prince of the air, and we must rebuke his lies and distractions by staying connected to the true and living vine, which is Jesus Christ. Think about it like this: appliances have to be plugged in for them to work to their greatest capacity. The first thing we do when an appliance in our home stops working is check its outlet to make sure it’s plugged in to the source of power. Spiritually, the same is true for our walk in Christ. If we want to abide in God’s power and love, we have to stay plugged into our main source. We can’t afford to disconnect or to allow our connection to malfunction.

Prayer:
Lord, help us abide in Your will. Teach us to walk in obedience to the purpose You have placed in our lives. Help us crucify our flesh daily so that You can get the glory from our lives. Amen.
