“Humble Yourself Before the Lord”
Scripture: Matthew 23:12

"And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted."

Devotion:
This Scripture reminds us of the importance of humility in our relationship with God and in our interactions with others. Jesus teaches that those who exalt themselves will be humbled, but those who humble themselves will be exalted. This principle challenges us to examine our hearts, motives, and attitudes, making sure that we are living to please God rather than seeking recognition, praise, or approval from others.

In this verse Jesus addresses the scribes and Pharisees as well as His disciples and other followers. He used this opportunity to teach them that greatness in the Kingdom of God is not measured by status, titles, or human recognition, but by a heart that is surrendered to the Lord. As children of God, we must remember that humility is an essential part of our walk with the Lord. It means recognizing that everything we have and everything we accomplish is made possible by His grace. Instead of taking pride in our abilities or accomplishments, we should give the glory and honor to God, who is all deserving.

Sometimes we may find ourselves seeking recognition for our service, becoming offended when our efforts go unnoticed, or comparing our spiritual journey with that of others. However, God calls us to serve with a sincere heart, remembering that He sees what others may overlook. Whether we are serving in the church, helping someone in need, or fulfilling our daily responsibilities, our goal should be to honor the Lord in all that we do.

Today, let us examine ourselves and ask: Are we serving God with humility, or are we seeking recognition for what we do? Let us put aside pride, jealousy, and selfish ambition, and instead chose to walk in love, obedience, and humility. As we humble ourselves before the Lord, we can trust Him with the outcome, knowing that to be truly great we must honor Him first.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your Word which teaches me the importance of humility. Search my heart and reveal any pride, selfish ambition, or desire for recognition that may be hindering my walk with You. Help me to serve others with a sincere heart, use the gifts You have given me for Your glory, and remain faithful even when my efforts go unnoticed. May my life reflect the humility of Jesus Christ in everything I do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
