Daily Devotional - The Finished Work - 2026 Month of Prayer - Day 20 - 9/20/26 - "Dead to Sin; Alive to Christ"

“Dead to Sin; Alive to Christ”
Scripture: Galatians 2:20, NIV  
 
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
 
Devotion:
When we receive the gift of salvation, the redeeming power of Jesus’ sacrifice transforms us. Our old sinful nature has to die. God begins a sanctification process in us that cleanses us from the inside out. Just as Jesus took our sins and crucified them on the cross to redeem us back to God, we are now dead to our sinful natures and alive to the power of the Holy Spirit living in us. I don’t have to figure things out on my own; I can depend on the strength of God daily to lead, guide, and order my steps.

Christ didn't just take our place, but He also showed us how to submit to the will of God and fulfill our purpose while still living in this flesh. If His Spirit leads us, we won’t give in to the lust of the flesh. Our flesh will be under the subjection to the authority and power of God. That means my words, my actions, and my thoughts align with the Word and will of God. I’m not easily distracted by what I see around me. Pride, lust of the eyes, and lust of the flesh will not distract me. I willingly submit daily to God, and I allow His will to be done in my life. I’m actively praying and seeking God in order to build a stronger relationship with Him. I obey and follow His instructions for me.

When we stay connected to God, we are stronger and better equipped to rebuke and resist the tricks and traps of the disgusting, dirty, lying devil. Jesus completed His assignment on earth. He could say, “It is finished.” Now we must carry out the Great Commission and tell others they can be redeemed from sin by the blood of the Lamb.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for redeeming me. I am no longer a slave to sin nor to my fleshly nature. My old man has died and been crucified with Jesus Christ. I am renewed and redeemed. Thank You Lord. Amen.
