“Once and for All”
Scripture: Hebrews 9:26, NIV

“Otherwise Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But he has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.”

Devotion:
Once and for all. When we hear that phrase, we often think of it being the ending of something. In today’s Scripture, it is only the beginning. Jesus came down, became the sacrifice in our place, and rose again with all power over sin and death. We could have never done it on our own as we were doomed to die because of sin, but Jesus stepped in and paid that price in our place. His sacrifice reconciled us back to God and washed away our sin.

Once - that was all it took for Jesus to do what we could never do. It only took one trip to the cross, one trip to the grave, one resurrection to deliver my soul. For all - that one sacrifice opened the door for me to live in eternity for all time. That one day opened the door for the rest of my days. When you feel like all hope is lost, when you feel like you can’t make it through life’s storms, remember this one thing: His sacrifice was once for all—complete, sufficient, and final.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for sending Jesus to take my place. Help me to accept that I don’t have to earn the gift You have freely given. Help me to walk in the freedom of being saved from sin. Help me to rest in the work that has already been completed on my behalf. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
