"Sowing Righteousness”
Scripture: Hosea 10:12, NIV
 
“Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the Lord, until he comes and showers his righteousness on you.”

Devotion:
Today’s Scripture is a call to repentance. Hosea encourages the Israelites to turn from their wicked ways and seek God. He gives them a blueprint for doing this. First, he tells them to sow righteousness. When we sow righteousness, we are walking in obedience to God and putting Him above all else. That means our relationship with God takes precedence over our own desires, and we exemplify His love to others. It really matters what we say and do. How we treat others is a direct reflection of our heart's posture. When we sow righteousness, we reap the fruit of unfailing love. Unfailing love comes from God. God is love, and His love is unconditional, unfailing, powerful, and transformative.

The third thing he says is “break up your unplowed ground.” We have to do a heart check and make sure that our hearts are not hardened by the cares and worries of this life. Once we have received the gift of salvation, God removes our hearts of stone and He gives us a new heart made of flesh. We can’t allow anything to take root in our hearts that would cause us to sin.

Lastly, he says, “seek the Lord until He showers His righteousness on you.” The beauty of God is that He allows us to have a personal relationship with Him. We have the honor and privilege of knowing Him. The more time we spend in His presence, the better we become and the more He reveals Himself to us. God continually calls us higher. He requires our faithfulness to Him and to the assignment He has for our lives. The only agenda we have is God’s agenda. We can’t allow the distractions of this world and complacency to hinder God’s will for our lives. We should desire to sow righteousness and reap God’s love.

Prayer:
Lord, help me sow righteousness in all that I do. Help me obey and submit to Your will for my life. Cleanse my heart from the inside out so Your love fills and flows from it. Amen.
