“We Will Speak What’s in Our Hearts”
Scripture: Luke 6:45, NKJV

"A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil [a]treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks."

Devotion:
Jesus’ Words in this Scripture teach us that our words are not random, they are a reflection of what is in our hearts. Just as a tree is known by its fruit, what we say brings out the condition of our hearts, whether good or evil. When our hearts are filled with God's Word, His Spirit, and His love, our conversations will reflect those characteristics of Christ, like grace, truthfulness, encouragement, forgiveness, and wisdom. But, when our hearts are filled with anger, bitterness, pride, or unforgiveness, those things will eventually show through our words and our actions.

This verse is also a reminder for us to be intentional about what we allow into our hearts. The conversations we entertain, the media we consume, and the thoughts we dwell on because they are able to shape what eventually comes out of our mouths. If we desire speech that honors God, we must prepare our hearts to honor Him above everything else. Ask yourself: Are my words building others up or tearing them down? Am I speaking faith or fear, hope or discouragement, blessings or criticism? Our speech should reflect the character of the One we serve, the One true and living God!

Start today by asking the Lord to fill your heart with His presence completely so that your words will always glorify Him. When our hearts are truly filled with the goodness of God, our lives will bear fruit that honors and glorifies Him while being a blessing to His children.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word that challenges me to examine the true condition of my heart. Cleanse me from anything that does not please You. Fill me with more of Your Holy Spirit so that my thoughts, words, and actions reflect Your love and holiness. And when I speak, let my words bring encouragement, peace, and Your love to those around me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
