“Gifts from an Unchanging Father”
 Scripture: James 1:17
 
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”

Devotion:
James reminds us in this Scripture that every true blessing in our lives, every moment of peace, every open door, every breath of joy is a gift directly from God. Good things never happen by chance, coincidence, or mere randomness.  It comes from the heart of our Father who is consistently kind, constantly generous, and unchanging in His love.

We live in a world full of swift transitions, circumstances that change suddenly, people who are inconsistent, emotions that rise and fall. But thank God we serve a Master who is not like that. His character does not change from season to season. We can trust Him, not only when life feels bright, but also when it feels dim.

We must remember that the small things that God blesses us with are gifts too, like the strength to get through a hard day, the comfort of a friend’s words, the whisper of peace in prayer, even the lessons learned through our struggles. God is present in them all.

James encourages us to give God thanks in everything. We must remember where our gifts come from, so that we will appreciate and worship the correct source, because they are not from the universe or crystals, they are not from the sun, moon, or stars. All good and perfect gifts come from our unchanging Heavenly Father who is the Creator of all those things.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for every good and perfect gift You pour into our lives. Help us to recognize and appreciate Your hand in both the big moments and in the intricate details. Remind us that You never change, even when everything around us does. Teach us to live with grateful minds and trusting hearts. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
