”Recognizing Him Along the Journey”

“And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.”

Devotion:
This verse tells us about two disciples who were walking on the road to Emmaus discouraged and confused after witnessing the crucifixion of Jesus. As they traveled, Jesus Himself walked with them. He explained the Old Testament prophecies that pointed to Himself, yet they did not recognize. In the disciples’ grief and confusion, God allowed their eyes to be temporarily blinded from recognizing who was walking with them. Luke tells us that they finally recognized Jesus when He took bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to them. This sequence mirrored the events of the Last Supper. It was at that moment that their eyes were opened, and the veil was lifted. Then they realized that the One who had been walking with them all that time was Jesus.

This is an important reminder for us today. Jesus can be in the midst during our time of disappointment, confusion, grief, and uncertainty. We may not always see Him or understand what He is doing, but guess what, His presence does not depend on our natural abilities. That is why Luke 24:31 says, “And he vanished from their sight.” At that time, their understanding shifted from physical sight to spiritual faith. Jesus was teaching them a lesson, and it is imperative for us to know that we cannot always rely on what our natural eyes can see.

There will be times when we must trust what we know by faith, even when we cannot discern what God is up to. Remember, we walk by faith and not by sight. Our feelings may change, our circumstances may change, and what we see may change, but Jesus will always be constant, He will always be on time when we need Him. It may be through His Word, in prayer, a preached sermon or through someone who is led by the Holy Spirit to encourage us, strengthen us, or provide help during our storm.

We, as children of God must trust Him, remain faithful, and believe that He is walking with us every step of the way.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Your presence and gift of the Holy Spirit within me. Please open my eyes and my heart to recognize You when I feel confused, discouraged, or alone.  Remind me that You are walking right beside me and help me to trust Your presence even when I cannot physically see that You are near. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“The Gift of Hope”
Scripture: Romans 8:24 NLT

“We were given this hope when we were saved. (If we already have something, we don’t need to hope for it.”

Devotion:
The hymn writer wrote, “Our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness…” Hope is one of God’s greatest gifts. This Scripture reminds us that true Christian hope does not depend on what we can already see, but on what we trust God to fulfill; if everything had already been accomplished, hope would no longer be necessary.

I believe most of us have experienced seasons in our lives when things did not turn out quite how we had hoped. We may have prayed for healing and still experienced sickness. We may have prayed for restoration and still experienced brokenness. We may have worked faithfully and saw little fruit. It is in those moments that God calls us to hope in Him even when we cannot see the answer.

When we as believers hope, it is more than wishful thinking. It is with confidence and trust in the promises of God. We do not know when God will turn a situation around or how He will answer our call, but we can trust that He remains faithful and He will come through for us.

This message is especially important for those serving in ministry.  There may be times when we wonder whether our prayers, preaching, teaching, counseling, and service are making a difference. Do not allow what you cannot see to convince you that God is not working.

We have heard it said often this year alone that seeds grow beneath the soil before anyone sees the plant. In the same way, we must place our faith in God trusting that He is working beneath the surface of someone's heart you ministered to even though you may never know the impact.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of hope. When I cannot see the answers, help me to trust You. When I become discouraged, help me to remember Your faithfulness. Give me strength when situations seem impossible and help me wait patiently and continue to serve You faithfully, knowing that You are working even when I cannot see it. In Jesus' name, Amen.

"So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that
cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever."

Devotion:
Paul encourages the believers in Corinth to not look at the things that they can see, but the things that they cannot see. He is letting them know that what cannot be seen are the things that matter, they are the things that will last forever. Yes, we will experience trials in our lives, and they are not to be ignored, but we must know that we have hope; those things are temporary and will soon pass away.

There will be times when discouragement arises in our ministries. Oftentimes the success of a ministry is measured by the number of members it has, the size of the building it owns, how charismatic or well known the pastor is. However, we must continue to do the work of the Lord in spite of what we see. It is by our faith in God that we can continue spreading His Word, continue testifying of His Goodness, and perform outreach even when it seems that no one is listening.

With our bare eyes we may see the ministry as not effective because we don’t see the church growing, or the world around us seems to be getting worse and not better, but God! As Paul taught his followers, and it is for us to take heed to today, when we look at things by faith, we can then see things that will last forever. Like the sermon you preached which changed someone’s life; or how an evangelist offered a word of prayer to someone and that person was drawn closer to Christ. This verse invites us to remain faithful even when what we see does not seem favorable.

We must put our trust in God and know that He is working on our behalf. Know that what we see is temporary, but what really matters is what we cannot see - that is what is Eternal.

Prayer:
Lord, help me keep my eyes fixed on You, not on what I can see. When my work goes unnoticed, remind me that my labor is not in vain. Give me strength to serve faithfully, wisdom to value what is eternal, and a life that points others to Christ. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Devotion:
Living day-to-day without a sense of divine direction can leave us feeling spiritually adrift. When we only look at the immediate hurdles in front of us, life easily turns into a cycle of mere survival. We react to crises, manage stress, and put out fires, but we lose sight of where God is actually leading us. “Vision" is not a corporate strategy or a personal ambition; it is prophetic revelation—seeing things from God's eternal perspective. Without a clear view of what God is doing and where He is taking us, we lose restraint, hope, and purpose. We cast off spiritual discipline because we cannot see past the immediate struggle.

Vision rescues us from the trap of shortsighted living. God's vision gives us a glimpse of His ultimate purpose, enabling us to endure today's trial because we trust tomorrow's promise. When we align our hearts with His truth, we step out of reaction mode and into a life marked by true, lasting joy. God is inviting you today to trade a narrow, short-term outlook for His divine perspective. Let His purposes anchor your steps.

Prayer:
Lord, grant me spiritual vision. Help me to look beyond my immediate circumstances and anchor my life in Your eternal truth. Give me the grace to walk in obedience, trusting that Your direction brings true life and deep contentment. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Devotion:
It is remarkably easy to let our immediate surroundings dictate our mood, our peace, and our faith. Day after day, we are surrounded by earthly trials, shifting circumstances, and temporal pressures that demand our full attention. The Apostle Paul issues a powerful call to recalibrate our perspective: "Set your affection on things above.” "Set your affection" means to mind, direct your mind to, or seek. It implies an intentional, daily choice of where we anchor our focus. Paul isn't telling us to ignore reality or neglect our earthly responsibilities; rather, he is reminding us that this earthly reality is not the only reality.

Seeing beyond what is requires an intentional shift of the heart. When we fix our gaze on eternal truths—on the unshakable kingdom of God, His unfailing love, and the glory awaiting us—the temporary storms of this life begin to shrink in perspective. An eternal mindset gives us endurance in hardship, peace in uncertainty, and hope when the path ahead is obscured. God is inviting you today to lift your eyes above the horizon of the temporary. What is happening around you is subject to change, but what is anchored above is eternal.

Prayer:
Lord, grant me the grace to set my affection and my mind on things above. Help me to look past what I can see with my physical eyes and live fully aware of Your eternal kingdom and truth. I know that my eternal hope lies only in you. In Jesus' name, Amen.

“And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.”

Devotion:
Life can be messy and Habakkuk felt this acutely. When he looked around his world, he saw injustice, violence, and uncertainty. He cried out to God, wondering why heaven seemed silent while chaos reigned on earth. Sound familiar? God’s answer to the prophet wasn't an immediate fix; it was a vision. "Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables..." God instructed Habakkuk to capture what He was going to do—even though it had not yet materialized in the physical realm. Why? Because when our present circumstances look bleak, we can look past the chaos of today and record the promise of tomorrow so that those who see it can run forward with purpose.

Seeing beyond what is requires faith-fueled imagination. It means looking at a closed door and believing God is preparing a better way. It means looking at a broken situation and trusting that the Redeemer is still at work. When we anchor our hearts in God's promises, we stop reacting merely to our circumstances and start living in the light of His ultimate reality. God is inviting you today to lift your eyes. The current situation does not have the final say; His promise does. So, write the vision plain so that all can see the promise of God.

Prayer:
Lord, forgive me for the times my eyes have become entirely consumed by what is right in front of me—the stress, the uncertainty, and the challenges. Give me the vision to look beyond my current limitations and trust in Your sovereign promises. Grant me the courage to run the race set before me, anchored in the certainty that You are working all things together for good, even when I cannot yet see the outcome. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Devotion:
As we conclude this glorious Month of Prayer focusing on The Finished Work of Christ, let us look to Joshua’s bold declaration to the people of Israel, which serves as a powerful reminder to us today that we must look at what the Lord has done and make a choice. We may not have physical idols like the children of Israel, but what is hindering your total surrender to God today - your job, your children, your ambition. All can be idols keeping you from serving God.

Our choice to serve God should not be out of dutiful obligation, or a result of some miracle He has performed in our lives, our choice should be a daily decision, joyful and grateful. Over this past month, we have walked through Christ’s finished work - His death and resurrection, His victory over death, and what should be our total confidence in the ongoing care of God. The debt has been paid, victory has been won, and when we state the words “as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” - we are simply planting our flag in the finished work, declaring that our homes, our families, and our lives belong to God.

Prayer:
Thank You for bringing us through this month of reflection on the finished work of Your Son. My heart overflows as I remember all that Jesus has done for me. As for me and my house, we will serve You. Help us to keep our eyes on the cross, knowing the victory has already been won. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Devotion:
Often times, I look at my spiritual growth and sometimes feel disappointed. Dealing with the same old habits, sometimes it causes my faith to waiver. In those moments, I sometimes wonder “Am I doing enough, am I pleasing God, am I doing what He has called me to be?” I feel like I am messing up the progress in my life and that God is frustrated with me. Today’s Scripture speaks to these moments. Paul lets us know that we don’t rely on our own willpower, discipline, or moral strength, we rely solely on the finished work of Christ.

It is not up to us to perform the good work; the Scripture says that God will perform it until the day Jesus returns. His finished work on the cross was just the beginning, and He remains actively at work to finish the work started in us. This life can sometimes feel like a knock down drag out brawl, but we must remember that it is a journey of relying on, trusting in, and believing in God. He has begun the work in us, and He will shape those rough edges, redeem our mistakes, and bring His work in us to completion - until the day of Jesus Christ.

Prayer:
God, thank You for the profound comfort of Your promise. When I feel weak or unfinished, quiet my fears with the truth that You are gently and perfectly completing the work You started in me. Help me to rest daily in Your finished work and your ongoing care. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Devotion:
Every day, we face battles. Discouragement, brokenness, pain, and the fear that we somehow have not measured up. If it were up to us, we would often succumb to the obstacles in this life and feel defeated daily under the shadow of our own human weakness. But GOD!! The Apostle Paul tells us in today’s Scripture that it’s not our own techniques, positive thinking, or life strategies that get us through, it is simply the finished work of Christ on the Cross that “giveth” us the victory. Not sells, not barters, but giveth, which means it is free. We have victory in Jesus! That’s a place of praise right there!

Because of the finished work of Jesus - His life, death and resurrection - death has been defeated and we have victory in that defeat. When Jesus declared "It is finished," the outcome of the war was sealed forever. In Christ, you are not fighting for victory; you are fighting from victory. The struggles you face today do not define your final destination. Whether you are battling a physical trial, a spiritual dry spell, or an emotional burden, the resurrection power of Jesus Christ is already active on your behalf. You can stand firm, knowing that the battle belongs to the Lord, and His triumph is yours.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the victory we have through our Lord Jesus Christ. Empower me to walk in that freedom, trusting that nothing can separate me from Your love or defeat Your purposes in my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Devotion:
When the weight of our failures presses upon our hearts, we may sometimes wonder if we have done enough, prayed enough, or tried hard enough to make things right with God. We may often revert to the thought that we somehow have to do something or earn our place with God. When these thoughts come to mind, remember the glorious truth of the finished work of Christ. John reminds us in today’s Scripture that Jesus was the “propitiation of our sins” - which simply means His sacrifice was enough to bring us into right relationship with God.

John makes a clear distinction in the tense of the phrase also, he uses the word “is”. This means that we don’t have to do anything special, say anything special, we simply have to believe. Jesus’ sacrifice was once and for all mankind. His declaration, "It is finished," meant the debt was paid, and that we now have access to God in a way never achievable before. Because of His sacrifice, there is no sin, no action, nothing that is too dark or too bad to keep me from coming back to God. I only have to submit myself, walk in faith and know that I am completely forgiven and eternally secure.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ, and for His sacrifice on the cross. Forgive me for the times I have looked to my own efforts, doubts, or works to secure Your favor, forgetting that the work was already finished at Calvary. Fill my heart with deep peace and bold gratitude, and let my life be a reflection of Your transforming grace. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

“The Righteousness of God”

“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

Devotion:
Jesus took our place. Despite the persecution, lies, and deceptive rhetoric of this world, our Savior has never sinned nor fell short of the goodness of God. He is holy, faithful, and righteous in every way. He took on the sins of the entire world to redeem us back to God. He became the ultimate sacrifice. We are saved from sin by grace through His redemptive power. Though we were once filthy, dirty, and destined for eternal death, Jesus’ sacrifice has now saved, redeemed, and declared us righteous. Through Him, we received ‌new life.

 We don’t deserve it, we could never earn it, or be worthy of the gift of salvation and the sacrifice that was made for us. Jesus did what animal sacrifices, prophets, and the law could not do. He crucified flesh in the flesh, and He conquered death. He faithfully obeyed HIs Father and overcame the sting of death to rise with ALL power! We are no longer slaves to sin; the precious blood of the Lamb of God has redeemed us.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the gift of salvation. Thank You for Your grace and mercy toward me. Help me glorify You in all that I say and do. Help me grow daily and sanctify me the more. Amen.

“Send Me”

"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send? And who will go for us? And I said, Here am I. Send me!”

Devotion:
Can God trust you to obey Him enough to go when He says go or to move when He says move? Can He trust you to speak what He tells you to speak? In today’s scriptural context, the prophet Isaiah in a vision finds himself standing before God. The first thing Isaiah acknowledges is how unworthy he is before God. He says, I’m unclean.  Then the seraphim takes a hot coal, and he touches Isaiah's lips in order to purify him before God. God then asks, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” Isaiah responds, “Here I am, send me!”

Can God send you this morning? Can He trust you to carry out His will and deliver it to the people in need? Isaiah, after acknowledging his own unworthiness and being purified before God, immediately gave God a yes. The Word of God lets us know the harvest is plenty, but the laborers are few. When we answer the call of God, we have to put away anything that hinders our faith in God. We take up our cross and ‌follow Jesus. Just like the disciples, they dropped everything they knew and faithfully answered the call of the Savior. God has a purpose and a plan for our lives, but He’s not forcing His will on us. He’s waiting to see if our faith in Him is enough for us to say, Lord, send me!

Prayer:
Lord, we humbly submit to Your will for our lives. You have our yes, God. Yes, we will serve and obey You. We will answer and heed Your call. Yes, You can send us. Amen.

“A Prepared Place”

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”
 
Devotion:
In today’s Scripture, Jesus is preparing His disciples for His crucifixion and ascension at the Last Supper. He encourages them not to feel discouraged or dismayed by His ascension to heaven but to maintain their faith by believing in Him and the Father. Furthermore, He lets them know He is going away to prepare a place for them. The good news doesn’t stop there, but He also lets them know that He was going to return. At His return, they would be able to go back to glory with Him.

This world is not our home. It’s just a stopover to our final destination. We are living to live again. Many times we forget we are spiritual beings having a natural experience, and not natural beings having a spiritual experience. Our physical bodies are going back to the earth, but our spirit is going to live forever. The good news is that when we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we get to live with Him for eternity. What a blessing to know that one day we will worship, praise, and be in the presence of our Savior forever. There is a prepared place waiting for you and me. But while we’re down here, we want to make sure that we are about our Father’s business. We want to let our lights shine so someone else can experience the joy of the Lord and make it to that prepared place.

Prayer:
Thank You God, for preparing a place just for me. Thank You for saving and redeeming me back to You. Help me follow Your spirit instead of my own desires. Amen.
